The dummy load should equal the real load for a lifelike test. So its 15V/0.35A=43R. Use 10W cement common type. If the dummy equals the full CCS current available, the reg is going to current starve its other section and won't be setting up voltage. Use 3 1.9V leds and 1.2R 2W setting resistor (R101 etc.) for 0.5A available if you can't find 1.3R.

Thank you, Salas and coolhead.

Is there a typo here? "10000uF/63V 10mm snap-in ''hot-rod''"
I can't find any Nichicon Muse/Panasonic FC/Elna Silmic II 10000uF with 63V, there's only 6.3V,10V, low voltage ratings etc

That's for full use of max setting. You gonna use a 18VAC max trafo. Get 10.000uF/35V long leads or snap in and you will be sorted.

Wonderful!

Where is everyone getting their Pana FC/Nichicon Muse/Elna Silmic 10000uFs at those voltage ratings?

My local farnell doesn't sell those models.. There's only these:
NICHICON|TVX1E103MDD|CAPACITOR, 10000UF, 25V | element14 Singapore
PANASONIC|ECOS1HA103EA|CAPACITOR, 10000UF, 50V | element14 Singapore
NICHICON|LLS1V103MELA|CAPACITOR, 10000UF, 35V | element14 Singapore
PANASONIC|EEUHD1E103|CAPACITOR, RADIAL, 25V, 10000UF | element14 Singapore

nichicon KG go up that high, silmic don't, they top out at 1000uf in the higher voltages. you can get the nichicon at parts connection, but to be quite honest, for this type of build i'll take high performance industrial grade caps over those. of the ones you've listed i would take the last. oh actually no, with 18vac secondaries that would be a bit close, is there a 35v in the same type?

I have had very good results with Mundorf AG caps for power supplies.
Don't know where you will get them in the USA but in the UK I use hificollective and have done for years. I'm sure Nick already has many customers in the USA and he is very reliable.
Also check out other power caps from Elna but not the Silmic on the same site.

If you only have Dx01, 2 and 3 , it is the old version. Newer one will be Dx01a, 01b, 2 and 3.

The dummy load resistor is calculate by 15V/0.45A=33.3ohm, power dissipate is 15Vx0.45A=6.75W, 5W is not enough. You just need one for testing both + and - board.

R101 should be 0.6V/0.45A=1.3ohm

Have fun.
How do you calculate for R101 0.6V?

I'm putting together a split rail -25V-0-+25V for the BA-3 front end which draws per channel 50mA.
I'll go for a 23Vac output per secondary winding rated at 500mA. This should account for voltage drop acrss diodes and headroom for the regulator.
I might as well go for the 3.9 ohm 5W R101 (overkill here perhaps).
10000uF 63V on C105.
Dummy load should be 500ohms for each of the rails at 3W.
Comments please.
