Tony's latest traffo DIY build

i bought a component tester from RBT, a local DIY'er...
and since been doing testing inductance tests on traffos...

this is primary coil only...

with cores...

therefore the core's mu is about 428..
notice also changes in impedance with and without core, 48.6 from 17.9 ohms..

and now to compare deeco iron with z11 irons...
deeco iron is on the left and the z11 at the right...

choke has about 1400 turns #30 wire on a 3/4 x 1 inch bobbin...
inductance of coils is 49.5mH

deeco iron assembled and gapped showed 4.65H

z11 choke gapped and assembled showed 6.96..
this shows that for a given size, you will get more inductance out of a z11/M6 cores
than an H50 or deeco core...

Is that telling us that the resistor has 10uH of inductance?
no no... it's not a resistor
It is 10uH inductor, "inductor model resistor" that the seller says :p
It might be a Bourns inductor, part number 77F100K-TR-RC: (here is a link)

Z11/M6 gives higher inductance for the same iron dimensions...
Thanks Tony for these measurement,
now I can start to make my own transformer
with more confidence

yes, the z11/m6 core is better....:D

i would two chokes, each on an 18mm x 20mm bobbins with
about 1400 turns each using #30 awg magnet wires..

the results are tabulated...
