Tony's latest traffo DIY build

i am using Office 2007 for the spreadsheet......i attached revised spreadsheet showing efficiencies at various primary currents...the short circuit testing is done with all secondaries shorted together, with the aid of a variac, the voltage is slowly increased until a specified current flows as registered in the ammeters, the voltage at which the specified current flows is basis for computing copper loss in watts, that is v x i........

i am building my database so i can compare losses between types of cores, soon i will be making the same dimensions and coils but will use higher grade type irons......

the core loss and copper losses can then be compared with a comparable traffo using better grade iron core materials...

the spreadsheet is self explanatory....

a pair of 6C33 push-pull OPT's

just finished, took me 2 days from get go....

Hi Tony,
Those look Pro,lol Good job !
I haven't wound my first one yet but am thinking about buying some wire and getting started, lol.
Regards,
NS

yes, that is the reason i post, to get you out to doing your own OPT's....:hohoho:

Cool Tony... those traffos popping out like daisy's...
you are responsible for shortage of 2" core and copper at deeco

Will be joining the party shortly as I have 4 pcs 200Watts output booster traffo EI core. Will be taking photos and exact measure of IE iron core in the next few days...

you need a bobbin sized for 1 3/4 centre leg stacked to 4 1/2.....
you can get around 1740 volt amperes out of this...
primary turns = 233 turns #16 AWG magnet wire
secondary turns @30volts = 30 turns #13 AWG magnet wire, 4 coils, two bifillar windings....
in my country, the standard is AWG, please take note of this as you may have a different one in yours...

hi tony,
i am very sorry for late construction,
i bought the gage wires what u mention,
i cant wind the whole wires inside the window, its popping out, so any solution?

as i said, wire gage numbers i use may not be the same as wire numbering used in India....

anyway, use wooden mallet to hammer out the bulge to make it fit, you can also use a table vise.....

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Tony,
Here is 4 booster output traffo I wanted to recycle.
Instead of throwing this out in a junk, I was inspired by your good thread to try as well. Core size is only 1 & 1/4". If combined by 2's I can get 3.5" stacked each.

Please help me estimate possible VA we could get, wire sizes (primary & sec) and number of turns for 24-0-24Vac secondary. Is it better to combine all EI core into 5-7" stack? Or can I possibly have 2pcs 600VA which I can use for small amp like F5?

1.25 CL x 3.5inch stack gives you about 595VA....
