Is there a way to tell what's the idle current that the 110V to 220V converter will draw in standby mode? Let's say that the converter is 1600W.
I am asking because I would like to see if I can leave it on 24/7 or it would be more beneficial to convert all my stereo gear to 220V once I move back to Europe. Thanks. |

Simple way is, measure it.
A good transformer will draw almost ZERO current when not under load. This is often not the case though and any transformer will draw a minimum current. It'll be far more expensive to convert all your gear because most of the transformers may be custom made and difficult / expensive to obtain in their 240V versions. I good 1600VA transformer will be the cheapest option in the long run. If necessary buy a STANDBY KILLER, these are designed to TURN OFF equipment that has been left dormant or in STANDBY. |

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I do not have the transformer so I can't take any measurements. As to the gear, I would just sell off my vintage 110V stereos and buy multi-voltage replacements.
