Default Battery power for the phono preamplifier

Hi.
I have Pro-Ject Phono Box SE II and I want to supply through batteries.
I have two batteries from the UPS each at 12v .
I need the preamp voltage V 12-0-12 or 16-0-16v.
If I connect them I get a 24-0-24 V.
Instructions are written in German but it has a picture of how to connect the battery.
If anyone has advice on how to use my battery and get a 12-0-12v
I would be grateful.

Batteries from a UPS to power a phono preamp sounds like super overkill!
It would probable work fine on a pair of 9 volt "transistor radio" batteries.

Personally, I hate 9V PP3 batteries for anything but multimeters.
Whatever batteries you use, you'll want to connect one battery's + terminal to the other battery's - terminal. That point will be the 0. The remaining + and - on the two batteries will be +12Vcc and -12Vee respectively.
If you connect two 12V batteries and get 24-0-24 V... PATENT IT!

So I can not get 24 V, if you lump them together like this?
And I am sure that they are 12v battery.

Sorry I am not familiar with the Project phono SE I had the small Project and that was suplied with a out of the wall 16 suply.(think it was £36)

Is this correct?

Now I am running a MC phono preamp out of 2 LAC 12 v each in series =24 rated at 2.3 A/H

It has been running for last 3 years.

I am using a LM 317 and transistor to charge up the cells.
and voltagge comparators to monitor charge.
If you new to charging batteries gogle up The Batery university.

There is a bit of details to look in to when going this way as the cells never charge discharge at the same rate so it is difficoult that you will get say for example 12.5 +V and 12.5 -V

I am using a buffer and voltagge devider to kepp the ground exactley in the midle.

And vhen not in use the cells are in parralel so to equalise the voltagge.

I have noticed quite a it of difference between normal and LAC suply
Sound stage is much firmer and more defined with the LAC and a bit of fuziness gone from Hi Band.(this with My phono stage)

Worth doing if this is what you look for but as I said I am not familiar with your project stage.

Let me know if you need help with charger and such I will dig out the old drawings

No, you will read 12V instead of 24V!
