Default Need a transformer

Noob Here ... I bought this plate amplifier that needs a transformer. I only know when I purchased that is was a 500W amplifier from a company this is out of business.

Could I buy some sort of TOROIDAL TRANSFORMER on ebay ?

I have a couple pics. I am no electrical engineer pro but I understand basic electronics to some degree. I am looking to learn more as a hobby.

I Was looking at something like this ?

Trans on ebay

Hi Noob,
That transformer doesn't have a high enough secondaty voltage or a high enough VA (volt - amps) rating to get you that 500 watts.
To get 500 watts on a 4 ohm speaker, you need at least +/-60VDC rails, or a 43-0-43 AC transformer and it would need to be ~500VA.

A lot of amps that claim to be 500w aren"t really 500w so I wouldn"t go connecting a 43v 0v 43v transformer up to it without being sure what voltage it is supposed to run at as you might blow a fuze or a bunch or capacitors if you connect too high a voltage to it .....

What is the voltage rating of the big caps in the power supply ??

It looks like you need a transformer with 2 different voltages , +/-15v and whatever is used for the power amp .....

Excellent points Minion, but short of packing it up and sending up here to me, there is no way to cover all the bases. He says 500 watts, he says transformer.

I agree those advertised 500 Watts are based on some pretty loose calculations! What would be the safer route? Thanks for that antek link. I will purchase something from them.
