What combination will give me a more clean and solid power supply
use (2) 2h chokes,1 8uf, (2) 100uf caps in a CLCLC configuration or (1) 10h choke, 1 8uf, 1 100uf caps in a CLC configuration. Thanks |

Simulate it using the Duncan Amps tool and see for yourself!
http://www.duncanamps.com/psud2/index.html How much current are you going to draw from it? Important to take into account when designing your psu. Last edited by mastodon; 13th January 2011 at 02:44 PM. |

The trans would be a 275-0-275, the current would be 140 ma at around 290-300 volts using a 5U4GB rectifier tube. The 2h chokes are 200ma.
I wish the Duncan amps tool worked on a Mac. |

The first one will have less hum and lower output impedance, partly because it has nearly twice as much capacitance.
Find a friend with a PC. Or use Spice. Or learn the maths and use a spreadsheet or calculator. |

According to Duncan Amp's PSUII, the CLCLC performs best:
The CLCLC (8uF, 2H, 100uF, 2H, 100uF) would result in 20mV ripple in a 140mA constant current load, with an output voltage of 312V. The CLC (8uF, 10H, 100uF) would create 263mW ripple in the same load, with an output voltage of 321V. I modelled the choke with a series resistance of 30R for both the 2H and the 10H chokes. Also note that in the model I used a 1n4007 bridge rectifier, so the output voltages would end up just about in your target range using a rectifier tube. |

Thank You. I appreciate you doing that for me. I think I'm going to go with the CLCLC.
I have more room under the chassis for the smaller chokes than I do on top with a larger one anyway. |

You're welcome
![]() Sounds like you have a solution then! Be sure to post back if the actual results are in line with the simulation. |
