Powering multiple opamps - cascaded rails or starred?
In my CD player output stage I have 6 op-amps. Each opamp has a convenient wire link on the PCB, along the supply rails, which seems to open up quite a bit of easily reversible PSU modding potential. For example I could wire in 12 regs so each opamp has its own +/- regulator....
The +/-15v supllies to the opamps - in stock form - is kind of cascaded, thats the best way I can describe it. Imagine a row of 6 opamps with a pos rail along the top and a neg rail along the bottom.
(NB: Im not talking about the grounding here. The PCB is ground planed so I'll be leaving that well alone)
2 things I have in mind to try are:
Use some wire to re-rout the power traces as such that the 6 opamps supply is 'starred' back to the respective +15v reg and -15reg. Any advantage to this or is it likely to make no difference?
Second thing is to add an additional pair of +/-15v regs so that the left and right channels of the OP stage get separate regulation. Effectively making the OP stage dual mono.
The more extreme mod would be to add 12 low noise regs.....
In doing this I'm also considering adding a dedicated supply for the OP stage using a CLCLC board.
