Hi All,
I have a somehow "stupid" question. I need to connect the dual 115V primaries of my toroid in series as we have 230 V around here. So far so good, both primaries are clearly identified. As the toroid is quite big, the leads are almost 20 cm long... hence my question. Should I shorten the 2 (End of 1st, Beginning of 2nd primary winding) leads before connecting to each other ? And, I feel silly asking, but want to be sure: Is there an "order" to respect in connecting the primaries, or is everything fine as long as IN/OUT-IN/OUT is respected ? Thanks in advance for your help Max |

Maybe this helps http://www.amplimo.nl/download/770xx.pdf
No real need to shorten them, or you need to take care in removing the lacquer Put them together Wind some solid core copper wire around the ends, tightly And solder One piece of 50mm heat shrink tube, half way on Shrink, bent it back loosely Mount another piece of tube Well, thats one possible way |

There is most certainly an order. The windings need to be in phase.
As for shortening the leads, it's perfectly permissible but you are painting yourself into a corner should you ever want to connect them differently. |

Thanks both for your input, I will tap them together in a binding post, most probably soldered together before as mentionned by tinitus.
Any reasons not to do so ? Should look like in the pic, the clamp will be another but I had this one around for taking the pic (primaries in series on the left, mains on the right)) Cheers, Max |
