Seems not right, but the last few preamp and crossover level projects, the power supply was far more complex and way more expensive than the circuits it drove. $10 worth of op-amp, coupple caps and resistors and $200 in a power supply!
Looking at power amp PS issues, specifically various tricks to improve a NAD, the complexity, cost and space required outgrows the actual amp circuits real fast. Tubes? Gad, what it takes to provide several regulated high voltage sources, DC current controlled soft start heaters, B+ delays. But we see these simple "try this great circuit", never remembering that the power supply will put you in the poor house! |
