I believe all the problems you mention are covered by this LiFePO4 technology - in 18650 format these will do 30A continuous output, without heating or gassing & high cycles. More expensive than Li-ion or LiPO but cost of ownership is way cheaper - the RC guys rave about them for their longevity, power output & recharge ability (they can be recharged in 10-15mins, AFAIR, at high current obviously) A123Systems :: Products.

As I said above, I shorted the connected wires on a LiFePO4 & wire went red hot but battery stayed cool, not any hint of heating

I think we looked at those - they didn't have the energy density we needed, although I could be wrong. I will ask our engineering team.

They do look like they are very light weight for the energy output, and it looks like they can discharge and charge very quickly which would be great for RC cars and power tools. It does look like they address most of our needs except for overall capacity.

We need the individual cells to be 3.6 volts 2.6+ah. The A123 18650's are listed as 1.1ah.

What we use currently are the panasonic 2.9ah: Cylindrical type | Lithium Ion Batteries | Batteries, Power supplies | Panasonic Industrial Solutions Global
