I have a 10v.dc 850ma. class2 adapter which was used for nintendo game deck and was wondering if it would be safe to use on my handheld police scanner. the scanner manual calls for 9v.dc 350ma. class 2 adapter. I measured the output of the 10 volt adapter and it measures 14v. dc. I assume the scanner has an internal regulator that reduces the voltage to 5v.dc. but, I'm not sure of the part# of the regulator or, it's wattage rating. Thanks for any advice!

I assume that you have measured the output from your wall adaptor unloaded?
Try measure it with a load across the terminals (e.g. 28 Ohm/ 5W resistor - Watch out! Gets hot) Normally output voltage is stated under full load, so you may measure 11 VDC during the above test. However I see no problem in using this adaptor to power your scanner. Most devices allows some span in input voltage
