TI TL780 seems a "improved" version of the common 78xx series.
It is available in 3 output voltages, 5V, 12V, and 15V, no complement type is available so far. Recently, I had ordered some TL780-05 to replace the LM7805 in my old Philips CD-player. Those old LM7805 ICs made by Motorola are good enough at all. However, the TL780s outperform the LM7805s by far. The most significant improved is that the background is deeper and dead quiet. The treble is smooth and refined, and the bass is still warm and relaxed, as the advantage of LM7805. In conclusion, TL780 is really a nice model for mod. It is 100% compatibility with traditional 78xx, easy to use, and good sounding (for digital). I have not tried TL780 on analog circuits. Have you?
