They have used it before on #26 in its thread with good feedback commentary. Make R3 33K 5W for 180V input. Measure 3x1.9Vf Leds @ 5mA so the 56R will give around 40mA for average Vgs. At this input voltage skip the big protection Zener, use only the small ones at the gates if any. Good luck and let us know.

Hi Salas,
could you short explain what´s the benefit of the lower R3 value?

Thanks for your response. What if I use a isolation transformer then I might have 170v input, the R3 33K stays the same? Use small zeners at the gates, I thought you suggest the D1 1n5383B can be smaller and the D5,6,7and 8 remain the same 1n4742a. Can I use same 90v for D1 or ?? Albert |

33K stays the same with 170V DCin. Small 0.5W 10V-12V types Zeners will all do for gates protection. IRF9610 is a 200V part so you can be secure without D1 even with your voltages.

Thanks. So I only need 4 12v for the purpose. Will let you know but might take a while, for I just start ordering parts. Albert |

That value gets to be adjusted for feeding the Leds healthier like in average 200-300V SSHV if some builds are lower or higher DCin.

Hi,
I 'm getting ready to move to simpler simplistic version of Salas HV shunt. 300Vin, 260Vout. If i want to aim for 60mA, is there any other change except lowering R1? |

R1 =33R, you can get 60ma!
