I have a schematic on hand, and it looks like that the -12V rail of the power supply was getting its power from the coupled filter inductor of other output because the -12V output is an independent circuit from the whole schematic without any independent source except for the coupled filter inductor, wondering if it is possible? if yes, anyone see this kind of application and why is it using in this way?

I have seen it but never used it. The coupled inductor isa acting like a transformer in this case. It's a cheap way to generate a negative rail if you forgot to do it in the main transformer.

that's what i am thinking about too, but if the main output has minimum load, does it still have enough current to drive the -12V rail?

Maybe... maybe not...
That's why I don't like it very well. Tony |
