If I have a bit access ripple to reduce
I could in this case use one C-R-C before reg with 470uF- 10 Ohm - 470 uF .. and I would not bother one bit, if there is 12 or 5 V across the regulator (LM317) Problem is when we have not enough voltage across this IC ![]() can get better with more Voltage!

In the main post I did note that I'm using a "slightly 'larger' transformer (voltage wise) than that need for an application". But I agree with you. The transf. used -- Amveco 62024 -- was recycled from another project. Quote:
Before the reg. (and as stated earlier), I have two in-series green LEDs (I assume 20mA and 2V drop each). With these, I have V ("unloaded", at reg input) = 32.5v. Loaded, V (at reg input) = 27v. I forgot to note a red (on indicator) LED across the load (with its current limiting 2.2K R in series). So that's 20mA plus the orig 25-40mA load. A partial schematic of the ckt is here. |
