Hello,
I have two questions regarding lineair regulator IC's. - I want to build a lineair supply for a Squeezebox Duet (9VDC, 0,55A) using LT1085. I looked at the application notes, but my guess is someone here knows of a better implementation. Any comments? - I also want to build a rectified heater supply, because my transformer has 8V secondaries. It must output about 1,6-1,7A at 6,3VDC. Is it beneficial to use the LT1085 there or can I use any other regulator IC? Same question here about the application, has someone a good idea to create a heater supply with a regulator IC (what capacitor values?)? Any comments about what type (lytic or tantalum) or brand of part to use are welcome. Thanks! |

Hi,
If you use linear regulator, any capacitor will do, but do place bypass caps. At 1.6-1.7 A, you could use a switching regulator since it is more efficient. You can use L4960 from ST Microelectonics. Look up the datasheet in datasheetcatalog.com and there you can find the circuit given along with PCB. While using switching regulators, you must use low ESR capacitors. Thanks.
