I just got the boards back -- so will be testing soon -- the circuit is unadulterated LB-47 from Nat Semi:

The 33K resistor has to be at least 3W, preferably 5W. I have stacked 3 100K/2W. I am using some aluminum flashing as a heat sink -- works just fine.
