Default high voltage power supply

I am a physics student doing my A level. This is my last year at school and my friends and I want to give to the school a high voltage power supply. We at first decided to buy one but it is too costly around 5000 dollars (including freight and taxes) I can tell that its very costly for us. So we decided to make one and donate it to the school .
We have no idea of how to do it.The input voltage is 240 V 50 Hz and we need an output of 5kV with a current of 1A .

Hope that you can help us looking forward for a quick response

best regards

You can try full bridge converter.

The hardest part is output rectifier circuit. You can connect a lot of SIC diode or schottky diode in series to archive required voltage rating. Do not use fast / ultra fast diode in series.
