Default transformer for SMPS

I was reading a scientific magazine and there is a Q&A section.

It was mentioned there than switchmode supplies does not need big (i.e. traditional) transformers. I believe this is true as laptop power supplies can deliver a lot of current in such a small footprint.

my question is: can someone point me to link to transformer suitable for SMPS?

Thank you very much

It's not exactly that simple. The (ferrite) core needed for an SMPS depends on what power / voltage(s) / current you need at the output.

Ferrite cores are made in different shapes and sizes, each for a certain range of powers (and switching frequencies).

That website will suggest you to design useless oversized transformer. For something real, you may want to read this
application note ---> http://www.topmagnetics.com/Magnetic...tion_notes.pdf

or you can visit http://www.mag-inc.com/library.asp. They do have a lot of information about ferrite.
