Default Krell preamps voltage regulators

I wish to know more about older Krell preamps power supply and voltage regulators topologies, for models like PAM-3 and KSP7b.

It seems that Krell preamps circuits are the best kept audio secret.

Default Krell Power supply

I had hoped to see more info too. Maybe we are looking in the wrong place? I have a KSP-7B with no power supply. Any idea where I might find the voltages, currents and pin assignments on the preamp power connector? Anyone?
Thanks
Chris

I saw a KSP-7B from the inside. If I'm not mistaken the power supply outputs + and - 21V from the power supply at the output.

I'm going to replace the caps in my KSP-7B soon and can see if I can get an idea of the schematics of the power supply.

Default Krell Preamp Power Supply

Hi Tarasque

I know it's been forever but I just came across this old post and thought I would take a chance that you are still alive and well! I tried to email you directly but I have too few posts on the forum so it's not allowed.

I never did get the power supply project going on this old Krell. Were you able to learn anything when you re-capped yours? I've seen that it is plus/minus 20 or 21 Volts and ground on the 3 pins. Still need to know Current and pin assignment. Any ideas?

Do you still use yours and do you love it? I've been told that it's very tranparent and will make a difference. I'm using an upgraded Adcom GFP555 which is pretty neutral. My system would likely benefit from a warmer, smooth high end. The B&K3030 driving Thiel CS2.0 tends to be on the bright side. What are your listening impressions of the Krell?

Thanks for any feedback

Chris

Chris,

It would not be too difficult to determine the pinout of the KSP7B. If you open the preamp, you can easally backtrace the connections to the pins on the connector.

Given the toriod size (120Va, 44Vct), the supply has to be capable of ~1,5A.

I've used Bob ellis's power supply boards (active filter boards) to make my own supply for the amp, with similar results but not better results.
