Default Rattling Magnepans

My left MMG began to rattle at high volume a few months ago and I thought I needed to send it back to the factory. I figured the mid/bass wire or diaphragm had come loose.

But, by chance, I disconnected the speaker cable and found that my banana plug had a broken prong. I replaced the plug and that fixed the problem. So the rattle was the result of intermittent contact with the plug (at low frequencies and high volume) and NOT a problem with the speaker itself.

I hope this helps alexmoose save some money while fixing his problem!

Wow, well thanks for that feedback, because I don't even use Banana plugs, I just shove speaker wire in the little hole (i'm one cheap DIYer). To Best Buy I must go!

I feel I ought to follow up on my post earlier in this thread.

The repairs I made a while back seem, literally to have come unstuck*. However, on contacting Magnepan, I have been able to purchase parts & materials sufficient to make a factory quality repair, for the not unreasonable sum of $113 inc shipping.

I'll let you know how this turns out.

*Very disappointing, I was just enjoying a fantastic drum section from the Beatles Anthology when I heard that distinctive "flpflpflpflpflpflpflpflp"
