AudioXpress just had an article on SoundPax speakers that use this NXT tech. Looks like it can almost reproduce a squarewave??

i might think about using them for rear and maybe voice channels of a surround setup. Get kinkos to print a pretty picture onto some foam board and hang them a few inches off of the rear wall. Could look very classy:

I just recently received a pair of sound pads. I must say I was a bit skeptical about these since I was never really impressed by the NXT flat panels on the mini Teac system.
![]() But, after playing around with them for a while they are sounding pretty good. You definately need a subwoofer for these. But the mids and highs are good - at least to my ears. The mids may be a tad forward, but you need to keep them away from the wall - this is where the experimenting comes in. The closer to the wall the more hollow the sound is. Think of it as an open baffle speaker, which it is. I have the SPs temporarily attached to 3/16" x 20" x 30" foam board with blue painters tape. It's centered 12" up from the bottom. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...e/NXT/NXT1.jpg I'm listening to them in a 12' x 12' room, with the foam board at a slight angle - the bottom is 8" from the wall. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...e/NXT/NXT2.jpg Audio source is a Playstation un-modded with audio output through the A/V connector - haven't had a chance to mod the PS yet. SPs are powered by my modded SI T-Amp with a touch of my small DIY 8" Peerless sub. -Ken |
