Here is a DIY Ribbon like speaker from a french guy
François DEMINIERE His site: http://home.tele2.fr/mon-site-perso/ Very impressive design with large band of operation. (250-20000 Hz), SPL 102 dB Still need a Bass reproducing device to support this mid high ribbon. Too bad their is no photos of some prototype!!! Mandrake5 |

Well, it looks a lot like a Lineaeum.
I always wanted to build one myself and this is the best DIY presentation I have seen so far. The concept is well known in small speakers marketed by Rat-Schack but I remember a full-range model at a HiFi-Show. There is enough info available to start building some modules of your own. Mandrake5, thank you very much Cheers JB

Hi,
thats a nice construction. I am wondering about the potential of dissortions. Since the membran is made of thin paper i expect significant deformation of the "bulbed" membran at certain frequencies. capaciti |

Hi
This French site with this 300mm ribbon is very Linny like. I have 8 Linaeum ET6s and I always wanted to get a tweeter of similar design for an array. Maybe build 4 or these units per channel. Could all end up a bit over efficient. Perhaps if the diameter of the paper semi-circles were reduced one could tailor the frequency and Spl for a specific use. Great find well spotted ! Maybe do the ribbons in doped silk like the Linny originals. Hope others experiment with this concept. Regards AnthonyPT |

Here is the second picture.
Also have a look at the airfoil site and interviews with Paul Paddock. SL had some very positive comments on the Airfoil. Similar principles are involved as far as I can see. Regards AnthonyPT URlL http://membrane.com/impact/products/products.html |

Hi
Have been doing some more research on the Paul Paddock trail and why there is no current Airfoil or post Airfoil designs that are around you can buy. Francois's design seems to be basically a big Linaeum I hope to get around to making a pair in 2006 and reporting back. The Manger is the only other driver that sort of works on a related principle as far as I know. For those who are interested this site gives a history of the Linaeum and its offshoots <http://www.aerodriver.com/?page=proto> I have a friend in France who may try and visit Francois and have a listen before coming over to OZ later in 2006 It will be interesting covering the 30hz to 250hz spectrum or so to meet the BIG Linny at 102db/wM! regards AnthonyPT |

Hi
Sounds like there is a lot more to this under the surface. If the designer (P P) is any good the idea will come back. He seems to have a spate of bad luck getting his later ideas to market. ??? We are only here to learn in this life so maybe his new"air bender" ideas will eventually reach market. Also let us hope the hype merchants are not on his shirt tails. Still building the 'BIG French Linny' may answer a lot of questions as to why the idea has sort of been passed by as even Aura don't push the Linaeum concept anymore. I_F you are making it clearer to me as to why that "Best speaker in the World site" is denuded of detail and should be removed unless it is there as a warning to others. " Snake oil beware" ! ! APT |
