Hi
this is my first attempt to make planar midrange with ribbon tweeter.
Hostaphan 2 micron membrane will be used. Dimension radiating area 60x20 cm.

I assume there is a treble ribbon to the left of the bigger magnets. Why isn't there an other line of similar size at the edge?

Please share some more of your thinking about the "motor" ans what range you will expect it to cover.

Looking very nice!

Ok, didn't know that it was Hostaphan.
Already got some from that supplier.
Sorry for the intrusion..

Oh whoops well its mylar i dont know the brand, could well be something else indeed. the other supplier mentioned is really good ,i always order 3 micron and 6 micron there and its fast shipping withing 10 days ! and cheap to. i just needed 1 micron once so i ordered at the freeflight since ebay does not have any 1 micron

please do notice when you dont use heat in any stage for your stretched film it will drop in chosen resonance over time. you might want to stretch it while heated so it stays at that resonance. just like quad. 3 micron and thinner has the tendency to drop resonance. the 6 micron film holds it better.

As you can see on photos there are 8 rows smaller magnets 5x3x30mm for mid and 2 rows bigger 10x5x30mm for ribbon. Ribbon is quazi ribbon with memrane 20mm width. Motor is designed to be push-pull so it means 2 plates with same pole magnets oposit to each other. I think this is classic, nothing new. Distance between magnets and memrane for mid is 4mm,for treble is only 2 mm. Of course this can be reduced.
Regarding sensitivity, it is difficult to estimate because many factors influence like magnet force, distance between magnets, distance between oposite magnets. But measuring will show. Idea is to put aluminium foil 10mic. for mid and 5mic.for treble. Step down transformer is already made from AMCC-6 amorphous core. Still waiting special glue E6000 from Hong-Kong. I found in some forums that E6000 is very good for Maggies reparation. I expect gluing most difficult part. From my ribbon experience foil connection could be also problematic for example connection copper and aluminium.

with 10 micron mylar im wondering if you need any transformer. all depends on length of coil and width of one track ofcourse. same for the ribbon if its an hybrid you can run several lengths of coil on the ribbon. as far as glue concerns magnepan uses scotch weld 30nf from 3M on there newer models.
foil connection i always made with these connectors for burglar alarms
FB724 - UNBRANDED - TERMINAL BLOCK, FOIL TAPE | Farnell element14

another option witch i did not test yet but should be possible is to use liquid tin plating from MG chemicals to plate the end you want to solder to. i asked MG if this would be possible and they told me if i cleaned it , it should work just as copper plating.

this would eb the most elegant option in my opinion.

Length is 60cm so in ideal case could be 4 traces 4mm width, total 2.4m long. I didn't calculate if it has enough resistance. But transformer is not problem as I already have it.
I'm not sure where to find 30nf 3M in Europe. Also heard that DAP Weldwood is very good but unfortunatelly not available in Europe. Similar is E6000.
WrineX Did you try FB725 tape? Is adhesive enough strong? I couldn't find thicknes. Could be like this on ebay:
1roll 5mm 40M Aluminum Foil Tape Adhesive Radiation Resist | eBay
Usually thicknes is 60 microns, too much.
