With the audiostatics, the small midpart is fullrange. Adjacent parts are first order crossed with a secundairy resistor. So actually it is a kind of semi-crossoverless design. Long ago I made non-segmented esls but I found out that introducing segmentation the sound improved despite the excistence of the 'crossover'.
