quick ESL63 diode Q

Hi all,

very quick question: the original diodes specc'd by Quad for the EHT in the ESL63 was 1AV30 - no longer available. How would it be if I was to use 2 x 1N4007 in series to replace each of these?

You possibly could but the R5000F from Rectron is a nice 5KV diode that you can buy from Mouser at $0.75 a pop.

Edit: I just saw you are in Ireland so Mouser is probably not an option, possibly Farnell has them as well

Thanks kindly - mouser is an option here but I have the 4007s to hand. If it works out then its probably worth going back and redoing it with fancier diodes....

I had a problem with the HV board in one of my 63's.

I couldn't be bothered to trace it to one cap, or one diode, so i replaced every diode and cap in both speakers.

Bought the parts from 'one thing audio', only cost something like 7 gbp.

Yes, I've already bought a panel and dustcovers from them and they seem like very decent fellas.

Grrrr. I got my order today and discovered I made a mistake - the caps I ordered were 1kv instead of 2kV.

Will they work Ok can anyone tell me?
