'BERTANGANI' . That was the name on the speaker if I remember it right!. It was more than 15 years ago when i was a teenager I saw this loudspeaker at a schoolmates place. At first sight any one can mistake it for a planar or ribbon. But when the grill cloth was removed it was nothing but an acoustic board with some sort of transducer attached to it from the back. The transducer resembled something like a driver unit of a PA horn.It sounded very good with a good midrange and low freq was limited.Does any one have any information about what type of loudspeaker was this and how it works and if it is possible to make such unit. Thanks in advance

Yeah you could make one, but why?
Better off building a good ESL or a ribbon... Imo. _-_-bear Also read up about the NEXT speaker... similar in some regards, but different too.

Styrofoam speaker panel with voice coils glued directly to the styrofoam....good for about 10 watts after which the styrofoam melted and the speakers were shot. terrible things. this guy is still trying to sell this crap now as paging speakers for offices. but the sensitivity is SO low that they are useless.
Companies now are making transducers that work the same way but you can attach them to pictures etc.... |

here's what I bought ~1968 "Polyplanar" - high qts, an obnoxious peak from an aluminum foil center dome. This Lafayette entry is side and rear view. Its front IIRC had a couple of concentric de-coupling rings

Hello Freddi,
those seem to be conceptually close to NXT's "balanced mode radiatior" but 30 Years earlier ... Are those in good shape ? Can you describe your sonic impression ? And if you like to tell, where did you get them ? Kind Regards |

20 watts PEAK!!!! PEAK! mind you! and they don't tell you the sensitivity!
Back in the early 1980's the local SHAACK electronics store sold these. people thought they were cool because they were so thin. they bought them, took them home, had a party and they speakers lasted about halfway through the first song and that was it....no more party and a sad owner! Luckily, I had a friend that worked at the store and warned me of such issue...I saved my pennies |

Seems like the store did not sell the subwoofers and the crossovers
needed ... |
