thx alllot for all the info, by the way how do i measure the HV ? have to got an special meter as well? mine is nog rated for that high voltage. i only have an el cheapo multimeter. i will do the breath test.
By the way anybody has a good idea to remove the old coating from frame if its there in the first place ? its school glue water based and maybe in the worst case some not seen by the eye graphite? not dust. Last edited by WrineX; 2nd November 2009 at 08:29 PM. |

Hi WrineX,
I have the impression that you are coating too much glue on your diaphragm. With a good coating material, you should coating your diaphragm with very, very thin layer. Good luck. Wachara C. |

they are working right now, howeever i have a sensitivity difernece bteween left and right about 2 or 3 dB. and my left mylar tension is a bit to low i gues because it look likes it strikes resonace frequency with verry low bass and tend to flap against the stator. and also the aclaimed 88dB efeciciency is or not true or i cant replicate that result. using the glue. but i did bought a aibrush pistol so im planing of doing the whole thing again, and maybe making a rig for tensioning with weights or some kind (sand bags)
any ideas will still be helpfull |

The experienced low sensitivity can depend on a membrane that has too low tension, with a big dip in the 50 to 200 Hz region. I can also tell you that
a friend of mine replaced his AudioStatic 300 membranes with 12 um aluminum coated rescue mylar: Akla and is very happy with the sound! I know that in theory, such a low resistance coating should not sound good, but it obviously does... |

yeah thats why i wanted high resistance, but an audio company in holland has pre coated foil that is not aluminum but foil used for TFT screens, its around the 500 Kohm stil not rally high resistance but pefectly coated, only downside its small so tensionion and glueing is a bit of hard work and its 12 um , wich i consider prerty thick. but maybe ill give it a try , the companye restores them pretty often so i think it should work.
