It does indeed.
This looks more like a modulated stun gun. Or a mixture between a class D amp and a flyback converter. It uses a ground electrode. The plasma flame creates a corona by using a high intensity RF carrier, which doesn't use a ground electrode. I'd like to build something like this. The design could probably be much improved. The 494 most likley isn't the best device for modulation. I'd take a look at some full range class-D modulation chips/topologies . Or, perhaps chips meant to drive flyback converters. Also, that output stage could benifit from a DRC snubber. I bet it has some voltage kick back issues as-is. |
