Hello!
Earlier this year I posted a thread about re-building my Maggies. The Tweaters are done. however Upon getting that to work, the Bass/Mid wires seem to be coming loose, and I hear ticking when the volume gets to be up there, I have a can of Miloxane now, however I was wondering what the best thing to use under that was, and how I should apply it. The Instructions Magnapan sent me said to use Super 77, however that seems a little archeic. Is the Gold Standard now to use Weldwood? and what strategy should I use to weldwood the wires in place? any help at all would be greatly appreciated. -Moose |

Hi Alexmoose,
I recently repaired a pair of SMG IIIb maggies and used weldwood - but any similar liquid "contact adhesive" would work. Beware that the first bottle of Weldwood I bought was not fresh and the contents had separated. This messed up my first attempt before I figured out what was wrong The trick is to take care in cleaning the wire and diaphragm so that the adhesive has a solid grip. Acetone is perfect for this, but wrk in a well ventilated area. Also find a nice fine brush to apply minimal glue, and be patient. See this excellent page by Peter Gunn - it sums up the process better than I could here. http://www.integracoustics.com/MUG/M...nn/repair.html Good luck, Ed |
