USB isolator with dedicated power

Hifimediy.com has a high-speed USB isolator.

I was wondering if it is possible to remove the isolated DC-DC converter and instead feed the isolated side from a dedicated power supply.

Nothing else at the moment. Was just planning to remove the DCDC converter and feed the isolated side with a 5V regulated LPS.

Planning to use this board

Will put the USB isolator board and the regulator board in a small Al casing and feed power from an external wall wart.

I don't have a datasheet of this specific Silanna USB insulator chip, but on all the other chip I know it is possible to use an external 5V supply. On the Murata NMUSB evaluation board (12Mb/s maximum data rate), the external power configuration is the default. You may also disconnect the input of the DC/DC converter and feed the external 5V power to it. This way you will keep the USB power line segregated from the main power supply.

Why not. My isolator uses a regulator to allow me to use 12V battery power for ground loop isolation when testing.
