I've brought this PC Case and want to make it into a Music player. Antec - Fusion Remote Black

I would like to use the front LCD to display the current song and use a monitor as little as possible.

Specs of the PC are:
Intel Core 2 Quad (I know it's OTT but who cares)
1 GB Ram
A Sound card and a ethernet card.
CD Drive
13 GB HDD (Will be upgraded)

I would like to be able to rip CDs aswell, what would you recommend software wise.

Linux would be fine (as little as possible complicated terminal stuff)
I have keys for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8

Intel Core 2 Quad is as fast as a modern I5.
What might not be as fast is the ram/bus. but 800mhz
should be good for audio/video.

I have 2 great HTPC's , the core duo does just as good as
the Athlon 4 core. (4 GIG/W7-64 + GT210 video/Asus Xonar sound)

For just music , your sound card (should) have native ASIO.

OS

I know the core 2 quad is a very good processor. What I mean is what software should I use? :)

Many Thanks

You will "dephile" that quad duo with that.
Linux daphile is made for a atom CPU.
Quad duo is a beast , both fans running at full to cool that 95-135w CPU
down. Intel has speedstep , but I'm not sure linux/daphile can
take advantage of it.
A very loud system that has 50X the processor horsepower required for daphile.

A quad core can do a lot more (below) , running 1/4 speed - still 12%.
Daphiles mobile /wireless features are cool - but made for much
more modest hardware.
OS

Does daphile support the LCD (IMON?) out of the box? IIRC daphile has no ssh/terminal access and thus cannot be customized.

It really does not matter if it is atom or quad duo, the linux kernel would be the same. Of course it supports the CPU power management for many years https://software.intel.com/en-us/ar...echnology-and-demand-based-switching-on-linux

Any linux distribution will work, a detailed procedure for the IMON LCD is e.g. [mythbuntu] Antec Fusion Black IMON LCD

First I would try openelec with kodi (e.g. Ripping CDs - Kodi , https://eliaxh.wordpress.com/2013/10/20/imon-vfd-omv/ )
