Archphile - An Archlinux Based Audiophile Distribution for Raspberry Pi and Udoo Quad

And because he's a really nice guy, he also released a new build for the RPi 2 & 3: Archphile - Browse /rpi3 at SourceForge.net

attachment.php

Like in the Odroid version, besides the usual MPD stuff, we also get support for UPnP (via upmpdcli), Spotify Premium (via librespot) and support for Roon Bridge.

Support for I2S HAT DACs is pretty complete, including almost all DACs that are supported by the kernel.

I tested it with Allo's Boss, Piano 2.1 and the new DigiOne interface. Everything worked as it should out of the box.

Not bad for a "dead project".. :p

Hi all and thank you very much for your kind words!

If you go to the links Dimdim gave, apart from the .img files you will find detailed instructions for the new goodies (Spotify, Roon Bridge, etc.).

When I find the time I will update the website, at least with some blog posts in order o present the new version.

Regards,

Michael

Thanks Darjus!

For anyone interested, I made some newer packages (MPD, MPD-SACD, Librespot) for Odroid C2:

Index of /lab/updates

I haven't put on the repository yet, so if you want to upgrade you will have to:

Code:
pacman -U package_url_bla_bla_bla.pkg.tar.xz

by copying the package url from the link above.

MPD 0.20.13 is up and you can update with the same procedure mentioned above.

Hi,

thank you Michael for the work you still put in. In my opinion still the best pre-fabricated mpd based solution there is.
I am not a Linux specialist, so my question is, whether the indications for updating mpd are also valid for the Odroid C1+ version?
Iam using a C1 and do not the the neccessity to upgrade to a C2 but it might be worthwhile impementing the latest mpd version.

Regards

Thank you for your feedback.

Some annoying USB errors have disappeared from logs (and some occasional pops using one of my two dacs - Aune S16).

Although USB interrupts remain very high, it seems that the new kernel deals better with USB DACS and this might affect sound for devices that weren't a good combo with the older 3.x kernel.

However there's a lot of work to be done until I release an image considered stable for Archphile standards.

I am currently doing some tests with wavpack compressed dsd files and MPD. I have rebuilt archphile mpd packages with wavpack support and mpd is doing the job fine.

The next official archphile MPD packages will include wavpack support and let's hope that the community will adopt this nice compression codec the soonest possible!

BTW, I wrote an article about wavpack/dsf/MPD for anyone interested:

Losslessly Compressing DSD files with Wavpack

I had a really long time to visit the DIY forums... so hi to all!
After being a user of Archphile for some months now, after Michael released it for RPi3, I want to jump in here and say a big thanx for his effort.
I am using it with the Allo DigiOne and the sound is wonderful!
My main sound system computer I used before -Mac Mini running Audirvana plus and JRiver- remains switched off for quite a long time now...

I am considering to get a linear psu for the rpi but I am all it’ll sceptical about the results.

Kudos tuxx... keep up the great work!!!!

Hi All,

New archphile convert here. Tried all the other rpi solutions, all of which gave me endless nuances. With archphile, it's like I'm full control. I can play all my files and audio quality is just amazing. I do have 1 question though. Could some kind soul please tell me how to add new webradio?

Hi freeplay,

thanks for your feedback!

Webradios are just pls files placed in:

/var/lib/mpd/music/webradio

You can access the path above with filezilla or a similar software and add your own file.

you can get the original pls files from this location:

recipe/webradio.tar.gz at master * archphile/recipe * GitHub

and have a look to see how the pls files are made.

PS. The majority of these PLS files were taken from an earlier version of Moodeaudio

PS.1. A new ympd bug causes the pls files to not appear in ympd web interface. I hope this will be resolved the soonest possible.
