I did a quick comparison of how my setup sounded with and without the psu plugged in.
I noticed a difference in the range of the tones, and the smoothness, or clarity.
So while it was no huge surprise that the battery power was superior to the switching psu, it got me to start thinking about a better psu. I soon found a larger, not meant for travel, psu, with about 30 percent more power. This psu sounded almost as good as the freshly charged battery. I found some specs that stated the noise was less than 100mv at the rated load.
I know there are companies that specialize in exotic, low noise power supplies.
I'm now wondering if anyone knew of a comparison test of off-the-shelf power supplies for noise and ripple?
