I have an ipad2 that I have linked up to my HD Tv via an HDMI connector, which in turn outputs to my power amp via a remote volume control. On the iPad I have a sampled music App. called "Thumb Jam" that contains a large number of sampled instruments and sounds which can be modified in a variety of different ways in terms of pitch, decay, reverb, attack etc, etc
I have to say that it is very useful as a tool for listening to your system. I would urge you to check it out and hear for yourself.
Try the Steel Drums with the scale dropped down as far as it will go! You can also sample any sound that you like from the in built mic.
It's great fun for generally messing about with, even if, like me, you are not not a musician.
