Hi,
I've searched on this topic but couldn't find anything similar. Today I've made some re-arrangement of Hi-Fi, and unfortunately a PC (that also serves as a source) for a lack of better place, ended up being placed just behind a speaker. I am a bit worried that magnetic field from a bass driver (Eminence Beta 15 on Open Baffle) may negatively affect the operation of Hard Drives inside a PC. As it is, there are only about 45 cm form the magnet to the HD. Is this "clearance" enough? I don't have any other suitable place for a PC, yet I don't want to loose all those pics and data stored on a HD because of a loudspeaker.
Any advice is highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Vix

I always use a compass if i am worried about some magnetic field. Get a compass and from a distance where no field is disturbing it slowly get closer to the magnetic source. You will see what distance the magnet has effect on the compass. If a compass can not disturbed from the given distance you can be sure no other electronics will ever sense it.
Earfanatic has provided a good tip.. Personally I'd be a little uncomfortable with a very large speaker magnet only 45 cm from my PC. A full steel case would provide significant magnet shielding but that big window will not. You may be perfectly OK or not - use that compass as suggested..
