OK, I wiil admiit it...... I love freeware!
There is a nice, little frreware program that I often use called "Free Sound Recorder" that will convert anything your sound card produces to a high quality MP3, WMA,WAGV, or OGG file. It is very configurable and supports high and varible bitrates for mp3s for example. Since it can convert any sound your compute makes, it comes in handy at times. In Linux there are free recorders that record using flac, A Free Lossless Coding compression algorithm that will record with no loss in audio quality. MP3, WMA,WAGV, or OGG algorithms are all lossless. Do a Google search to find them.
I use Ubuntu Audacity. I believe there is also a free Audacity for Windows. |

Well, this is for Windows users and it's stupid simple to use once it's configured as you like it.
Let's keep in mind that I'm talking about mp3s and other lower qualty sounds on the net that one might want to quickly save. Anyway, this program also converts with no loss in quality. However if one is dealing with a lower qualty sound to begin with, this point is probably moot. Last edited by JoeDJ; 26th January 2012 at 11:53 PM. |
