when I connected my stereo (tubelab simple se with volume control)
to my laptop and playing windows media player. with the volume maxxed out on both the laptop and the amplifier I get peaks of about 92dB. with my cd player I get peaks of 104 dB without the amp all the way up. Do other external sound cards/USB DAC's have higher output? Thanks, Paul |

Are you sure that all the volume controls on the laptop are maxed out? If you bring up the full volume control panel, there's (usually) sliders for the various sources (Wave, CD Digital, Microphone....) as well as a main volume control.
