Default USB to RCA STEREO AUDIO female!? For Recording?

Hello, I am new to this website and i just hope i am posting in the correct area. I have a tascam portasudio 414mkII. ... I LOVE IT!! I love the warm analog sound I get with acoustic recordings, I also am a huge fan of PANNING different tracks.

When I go to record it ont my laptop I have a cable going from my tascam stereo out to my 1/8" microphone input (the only one I have on my laptop ie. no line out). The problem is that it cancels all panning that I did and everything is dead center when i record like that. Its because the 1/8" jack doesn't support stereo recording.

I have read a few forums about this and they talk about recording to a portable cd recorder then burning (but i dont have cd recorder) ... also they mention new audio card (but i have a laptop that cannot support that) ... PLEASE HELP ME!! thanks

I JUST ORDERED 3-RCA FEMALE AUDIO VIDEO to USB 2.0 MALE AUX ADAPTOR - eBay (item 280654427648 end time Jun-02-11 19:38:55 PDT)

I hope that link works .. if not I ordered a "3-RCA FEMALE AUDIO VIDEO to USB 2.0 MALE AUX ADAPTOR" So i can plug stereo to stereo input on the usb. I am just wondering if this is going to work because it will not come for about 2 weeks. If you know anything about this or know a better / easier / cheaper way to record stereo to my laptop let me know! I LOVE ANALOG .. i just wanna put files on my ipod as well ya know. ( SIDENOTE: also i own an iphone, just wondering if anyone has tried the iphone connection to rca stereo audio before)

I just find it hard to believe they could cram the AV/USB converter into the USB plug and sell it for under 2 US dollars in wholesale lots. Plus specifications of that product are nowhere to be found on internet.

Stereo to USB by cramming the chip inside a longer-than-usual USB connector I've seen before

But I'd suspect if they added the composite video also.

I actually purchased Composite RCA S-Video Stereo Audio To USB Converter DVR - eBay (item 250719342217 end time Jun-27-11 13:15:31 PDT) instead.... the other one was not the correct one... hopefully this works... if anyone is interested i can let you know how it goes... If it works correctly it is one VERY VERY USEFUL TOOL and VERY affordable!!

Hello!

Here's how I would do it.

Download the free audio editor audacity (Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder)

Now record one stereo channel at the time from your Tascam in to your laptops microphone jack, using Audacity. I'm guessing the best way is to only plug in the rca of the channel you're currently recording.

In Audacity make sure the tracks are synced, then pan each channel all the way out, make a mixdown and voila!

If your laptop is up to it there are also tons of free VST effects you can use for mastering your mixdown.

Keep rocking!
/Levi

That sounds like a little more work than i would want to do... espeically because i like to adjusts pans on the 4 track while doing a final mixdown. I downloaded a free audio recorder a while ago that recording stereo thru the 1/8" mic jack... audacity just records in mono with it for some reason. I will try to find the program i had before... ill let you know how it goes! CATSHIT RECORDS's sounds on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free has some of my 4 track recordings and some are in stereo. ( i just wished i remembered what program i used ).

Have you gone through your hardware and software configs? I've had minor issues with record/playback that were solved with configuration changes. Have you looked at something like the Behringer UCA202? Your laptop doesn't have a CD burner??

Ok! If you're doing live mixing you'll need to record both channels at the same time. I see that.

Don't know how much experience you have with sequencers (audio recorders). But I do know it can be a hassle to map the inputs correctly. Also you need to make the track you are recording to, a stereo track. Either that or record to two tracks simultaneously.
