Top Loading SATA DVD drive?
Does anyone have a suggestion on finding a top loading, internal, sata, dvd rom or burner that could be used in a custom computer case?

almost any of them can be made as top loader , with appropriate puck

I tried it with one (an old Pioneer DVD-ROM CDRW combo), it didn't work so well. The problem was that there are a few switches that tell the drive that the door is open/closed and tray aligned. They had to be sequenced properly to tell the drive that it was good to go. I couldn't figure out the requisite logic flow/switchology. I'm sure it could be done with some logic electronics or just sequenced timers (maybe reset with a light sensor that senses the presence of a disk?), but I didn't have the time to figure it out.
