PCI vs. PCI-Express Sound Card Supply Voltages

Does anyone know how PCI Express sound cards derive sufficient positive and negative voltages to drive the op-amp stages?

The PCI bus supplies + and - 12V. The PCI Express bus supplies only +5V and +3V.

I had to reply to my own thread to include the PCI and PCI-E bus pinouts so everyone would know what I was talking about. The "editorial" staff does not allow edits after 30 minutes.

On my Xonar STX you connect a power molex to the card to power the boards outputs. If you want you can build a regulated linear supply to drive the card.

Thanks DJ, I had not seen this type of sound card. I wonder if that mean the pre-amp stage is class A?
