tried last night a couple of hours with another driver, it plays nicely but wasapi does not work with it (push wasapi ok on foobar, event wasapi not working).

Yes, wasapi is not supported but the big deal here is ASIO. Try ASIO with foobar setting the lowest possible latency. I hope Pureplayer will support ASIO soon...

ok, will give it a try then. I shall also look to modify the DAC to take benefit of the I2S connection if I have time. but the next step is remove the trafo/coax and put a BNC instead.

Yes this will probably have very good results but this interface has an output buffer chip and performs very well with coax too. Maybe it is better to go step by step.

ok, transformer removed, foobar-->ASIO. Works very well, at least on par with Hiface2.
Shame I can't use it with your player!!

From this version on you may change the latency and buffersize parameters by editing pureplayer.ini file in order to optimize your system's playback performance (fine tuning based on your setup and ears). The benefits can be huge.

already several days running on my son's eee pc, just sound great after updating sound driver.

foobar2000 impressed me at the beginning but listening comfort degrades afterwards, not so with pure player

I've also noticed with PP that the sound is getting drastically better after track 4 or 5, maybe my illusion though, any of you experienced this?

The playback actions are exactly the same for each song. Maybe it is related with your pc (many processes running at startup, lot of paging etc). I haven't noticed anything similar. Thanks

So, just wondering , can a DOS based player sound better? so we have old cpu board with good sound card. and install drivers. and run it for better sound reproduction.

In post #432 you mentioned that AudioPhile Linux has the potential to sound better than any Windows Player. Is this, three months later, your opinion still?

Yes. I personally use Audiophile Linux 1 (i don't know about 2) because it sounds better in my system and ears.
When used properly (jack and low latency) the sound is more raw and clear. Additionally playback result is not changing by time. Windows (especially XP) seems to sound worse after a few hours or after opening-closing some apps. You may try listening to a song before and after a restart. Most of the times the result is better after the restart.

Jack by principle cannot improve sound quality, it is just a layer between application and the sound layer - alsa, used for transporting data and control between audio production applications. It introduces additional conversions to float32, its internal format, adds to your CPU load. Audiophile linux is created by a guy who honestly states has no background in linux audio, just did what heard in internet discussions.

Also low latency adds to your machine CPU load. But is it audible? I very much doubt that and noone has made/reported about a proper blind listening test with positive results.
