Squeezebox Touch -- Modifications

Try a powerreset first. Unplug the cable.

Otherwise press the reset button for 5s. The Touch will restore factory settings.

Since I do a lot of restores I had once to run a forced update after restoring the factory settings to reload the firmware from the web again.

Cheers

Interesting...
In your manual you say (after placing files) the Touch must be rebooted.
Because i could not find a "reboot option" i unplugged the power cord.

In your post above you call that a "powerreset". My question is how do you perform a normal reboot?

Create a bridge to use Ethernet instead of Wireless

Hello,
can anyone comment on the following idea I have to implement Ethernet input to my Touch instead of Wireless.

At the moment I am streaming wirelessly from Slimserver running on a PC to my touch in another part of the house. My Touch has it's digital output hooked into a standalone DAC which feeds into an integrated amp.

The existing router (Router_1) is too far from the Touch (and would cause too much disturbance of the walls etc.) to run an ethernet cable between it and the Touch.
My thought is to set up another router (Router_2)as a wireless bridge between the existing router and connect the Touch to Router_2 via one of it's ethernet outputs.
My main concern is that by running a router close to my Hi-Fi system, I will be introducing more RF and also mains noise from it's power supply, which will tend to negate any gains I make by running the Touch with it's wireless controller switched off.
I'd appreciate any experiences or thoughts on this?
Thanks!

well tar, it doesn't taste that good...

I am not sure what you are asking

If you type:

tar -?

it will give you help on how to use the command.

EDIT: On closer inspection it should be "tar -h" not "tar -?"

# tar -h
BusyBox v1.16.2 (2010-12-28 05:38:36 MST) multi-call binary.
Usage: tar -[cxtzvO] [-f TARFILE] [-C DIR] [FILE]...
Create, extract, or list files from a tar file
Options:
c Create
x Extract
t List
Archive format selection:
z Filter the archive through gzip
File selection:
f Name of TARFILE or "-" for stdin
O Extract to stdout
C Change to DIR before operation
v Verbose

Hi guys.

Thx all of you BETA testers for now. ;)

As I said - official launch will be Sunday. Don't worry we'll manage. :D

1.
There've been a blogger problem ( one out of many others I stepped into) with the reference link.

Try this direct link instead :

Touch Toolbox 2.0 blog

Perhaps I'll change from blogger to wordpress soon.

2. The download of the file seems to work for me.
I received comments that the upgrade was working fine for others.

3. If you're not sure what and how to write a command, just try a simple
Copy/Paste. ;)

4. Make sure that you follow the instructions. Especially those telling
you to run a factory reset before you start. If you got my old stuff
installed the upgrade will fail if you don't do that.
And 2. in case the Touch hangs up during boot (this might happen during
the upgrade process only!!), just unplug the power cable to do a hard
reset.

5. I changed my signature pointing to the right link btw.

Cheers
