I have a dockstar running Debian. Power consumption is a total of 4W with USB sound board and pendrive connected.

Thanx for the responses.
I ditched the atom mobo idea because of extra components still needed (of which one was mentioned above) I ordered and Alix board a couple days ago. The Seagate Dockstar looks intriguing but too late now. The tutorials look well done. I think next time I will try the Seagate. Once setup I will experiment with wifi-vs Ethernet. In the place I rent now my server is upstairs from my stereo so a permanent Ethernet setup is out of the question. I can run a Cat5 down the stairs and through the hallways to experiment with though. I think if I can 100% buffer the song with mpd it may help (at lease with choppiness). I purchased a wifi dongle that has a wire between the USB and antenna so I will play with positing if there are problems. |
