Hi all from a new enrolled.
I would buy a solid state preamp to bind together to my valvestate poweramp, and would have thought to a Threshold SL10. But I have a doubt about the coupling with an alltube power. Many SS preamps I have tried, worked badly with the valves. Someone has had one similar experiences? If SL10 is not wellsuited with tubes which other "Pass factory" preamp could be well coupled? What suggests Mr. Pass? The last suggestion in case of eventual purchase. How could I change the voltage from 110V Usa to 220V Europe? Thaks so much and have a fine sunday, Nino - Ps - my poweramp is an ARC D115, but I would buy in future also a SA/4e |

Many pass products can be transformed to 230VAC, and if not, you'll just have to change the transformer and fuse which shouldn't be that expensive in a preamp. |

Thanks for answer,
in the past I have tried a Sony Esprit, a Mark Levinson and a Krell preamps and the biggest defect I have noticed it wass the lack of musicality. Or too detailed or lot of harshness... I believe that mainly this depends on the notable difference of impedance: the tube amps have usually an higher impedence than SS. The only SS preamp wich satisfied me in past has been a Burmester (838) but it had phono input only... My own pre is an ARC SP10 that I like for the phono input but it doesn't fully satisfy me in the line input; therefore I have thought placing side by side it a SS preamp with a good high level input. In other configurations I have listened Pass or Threshold preamp and I loved much them. Now I would have the occasion to purchase a Thrshold SL10 and I would like to know if it could have electric compatibility (impedance) problems with my poweramp, and if someone has had experiences with this kind of joining. It's not going to have impedance problems - the input to
tube amps is very easy to drive. But this doesn't mean that you are going to like the sound if you haven't liked the sound of other SS preamps.

Thanks so much Mr. Pass.
Preamps I tried with my tubeamp sounded badly not only in my opinion but also for many friends who heard them. Problem is not if I like or not the sound of the coupling, but if the products are compatible or not. Have you sometime joint in satisfactory way a SL-10 to a tube amp? Still thanks |
