Hello!
I have build 2-channel Aleph 5 and I was wondering, how much is it worth? The characteristics: PSU: -960W toroid transformator -2x47000uF/40V elco. Siemens Sikorel -2x10uF/35V tantal Amp(for 1 channel): -6xIRFP240 -3xIRF9620 -1/2W metal-film resistors -3W metal-film resistors P.S.: Both channels use one PSU mentioned above. The whole amp is build as a Hi-Fi component(measurments are: 430x460x160mm WxDxH). It has RCA and XLR input connectors and ON/OFF button switch. It has wood on the sides and on the bottom, ALU front and back panel and a glass hood So, how much do you think it is worth if I decide to sell it? I heard that Aleph 0 costs about 1900$. Does anybody have any info about Aleph 5? Regards, DJG |

Well that depends were you looking to make a profit? I tend to think that would just be wrong to take what has been offered by Mr. Pass and capitalize on it by making a profit from his work.
This is not meant as a critiscm, Just an observation. As a DIY'er I sell stuff all the time and make a profit, so far though not at anyone's expense. That said how de we reconcile buying boards from DIY'ers whao are selling them at a profit. Ooohh it's a slippery slope. Anthony |

Hi Anthony et all,
As I was once guilty of selling boards at a profit, I agree that we should not profit from Mr Pass's generosity. That is precisely why I organized the latest Aleph board group buy. I will probably end up "losing" some money, but it is well worth all the trouble and expense. I have learned so much from everyone at this board. There is real satisfaction in completing a project and then enjoying the results. Best Regards, Dale

Absolutely none taken. I posted as more or less an apology for my earlier actions.

I'm not planing to earn a lot of money. I just want to have the material covered and something to cover my work.
I have designed my own PCB for amp and PSU. And naturaly I have build it together. I just need a little info about the prices. I'm planing to build Aleph 1.2 regards, DJG

If you are looking to have it covered by your homeowners insurance policy, the best coverage you can obtain is the cost of the parts. As far as I konw (and I may be wrong) you are not allowed to count your love and labor in the appraisal/replacement cost of any item listed on an insurance policy in most locations.

Some of our creations can certainly be judged as works of art. Many of them, such as Peters work definaltely falls in this catagory. If you have a really good insurance policy then it certainly should cover your loss and your time to replace them. Mark |
