The carbon R is good for the vintage.
I have also heard that the carbon R contains more noise.

This is not a bad idea. I have studied a bit the circuit, seem to me that all resistors over 1K works under 1/8 W power.
A bit critical, maybe, are the two 1.5K resistors (R17,R18)
Is that correct?
