I just wanted to say thanks.. I own a 400a and love it. Without your ability to design such an amplifier way back in the 80's I simply could not have afforded the fantastic sound I have now. I love the amp so much that I bought another with a bad channel which I hope to fix.. apparently it got hot and stopped working in one channel.. but even if I cant fix it it will be good to cannibalize to keep my good amp running years and years from now!!

Thanks

lineup :) takes a wild guess for: Threshold ..

1991 is what i recall, think NP posted as such as well.

Last 2 models i can remember i saw and heard before the news of the lobster man leaving broke were the SA/10e and SA/3.9e, in that order.
[i used to be an NP groupie. Dam-n(Will Smith @copyright) ,...i still am, how pathetic can one be.]

Let's hope the Only but not the Lonely himself hops in to tell it like it really is.

Yes,
I think he will correct us, at least if we are wrong.
If we are right, he will not waste any words here.
In true Nelson Style of behavior ;)

thanks again, jacco

I hope to soon be able to do my exam
and present my papers in the subject:
Nelson Pass and his Amplifiers - a study of an unique person & his works.
I hope I will be able to do this before he passes away
and this forum on that day is left in total grief and sorrow.
It would be nice for him to read.
After all he did for me and all others here.
I think he will feel honoured. And he deserves it.
:)

By the way, I need to know his date of birth.
Otherwise I would hardly get my exam, would I?
Anybody knows?
Maybe there is some page like this: Famous Danes - famous from Denmark
with famous persons from USA ....

(notice especially Danish #23 - Rasmus Lerdorf
it is because of him we right now read a page here named showthread.php
Because Rasmus 'constructed PHP' - and he used those letters
as short for Personal HomePage
as he used his script for his homepage, originally.
http://lerdorf.com/ )

Regards
to all faithful 'lineup readers'
yours

I am 55. Will be 56 in our beautiful summertime of May.

Right now is only snow & ice, as usual during 6-7 months.
Here close to The Arctic Circle where I live.
65 degrees north!

BTW, you can get a 400A schematic at www.passlabs.com/np
and there are some other little odds and ends there for
downloading.

I know about your special 'Blues folder'
where you put stuff, files people can download, if needed.
I have been there a few times before.

I am sure most anyone might be able to find some interesting there.
Something to explore further.

thanks!

Babo-wana. (think this name is something about being dumb :D )

That has got everything still to learn ... about life and amplifiers

You can say some older here at forum, like Pass & Curl & AKSA .. etc.
are some decades ahead in experience
... eventhough sometimes behind in knowledge about latest super deiveces of the day

I think its been explained... yes threshold.. and I stand corrected I think it was designed in the 70's and hit the market in '79 maybe.. but an "80's" amplifier for sure.

Thanks Mr. Pass.. bit schematics are pretty useless to me.. I'll just swap out a few parts and see if it comes alive.. it shoud be here any day now! (ebay needs repair special!).. :)

I do have a question for Threshold experts... How do you know if this was a "early" 400a or late?

Here is a pic of the one I bought.. looks like its like mine.. the cord is a permanent connection.. is that an indicator?

Sverege Halojoy would laugh at your Sverege coin ;)

(Sometimes, but quite often opposite :D)

Mmm . . . only about amplifiers

But, I think I must be ahead in the after-work thrill experience . . .

As far as I remember, the earlier models were not cascoded. If its possible to tell the difference from looking at the amp, I dont know. If you can compare the schematic to your amp, you might be able to find out.
Barchetta, I have a scan of the brochure from Threshold with the 4000A, 400A and the NS10. Its 5 Mb's so too big to post here. If you want a copy, send me an email through the forum:) Those early Threshold's, given a tender care (new caps), still sounds better than most amps of today.
