I'm getting the transformers from here: http://toroidy.pl/

I was writing about it previously in my AS thread. I compared those transformers to Plitrons and prefer them. Since shipping from Europe is expensive, I use those transformers only for my personal projects. They are still reasonably cheap, well made and lead time is short.

All the high power resistors are Mills, the other resistor choices were dependant on what I had in stock, so all 220R and 22k are Caddocks, 10k input series is Vishay S102, there are few Holcos and Mills.

I posted some detailed pics here: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=968617#post968617

Yesterday I bypassed Jensen output coupling cap with teflon V-Cap and it 's an improvement.

thanx again Peter for all the answers and links .

the last questions : what value of the teflon cap ?

Have you experimented with other power supplys ?
CLC ? or CRC ?

Can you please share a little bit more your findings with
the elcos and resistors in comparison to other types
or cheap parts like the panasonics ?

thanx in advance

Jürgen

Can you point me to the thread where you describe your opinion and findings about the sound of those Fertins if the one exist? I tried to find it but couldn't.

I don't think I did it, but so far those are the best drivers I had. Check back posts of bcherry and dice45 on Fertins, they would be pretty much in line with my impressions:

The cap is 0.22uF, the only value I had on hand. I didn't try other PS nor did I experiment with different resistors. This was build with what you have and as quickly as possible kind of project ;)

However, I still used the experience I gained while building different GCs.

I hope you have been able to fully burn in your Zv9. Are you in position to comment on the sound and how it compares to your gain clones.

Same question as dviswa and what about that T-Rex amp? Some thoughts, impressions.

I posted some initial thoughts here: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=999005#post999005

It is true, that any of those amps didn't replace my reference GC amp yet, which was described here: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76609&highlight=

Now, both of those amps have certain advantages over the GC: T-Rex has texture abundance and air that GC can't really match. Zv9 is very similar in presentation to the GC (I'd say same school of sound) with more delicate and smooth treble and overall purity. The disadvantage I found with Zv9 in my system was its very low gain. And since my DAC uses passive output, I was forced to use an active preamp with Zv9. The only one available with at least 20dB gain was modified Levinson 380S but with it in a signal path all the purity Zv9 presents was thrown out of the window and I simply couldn''t use it like that. So Zv9 still awaits better system matching.

Besides, there is something in a GC that still keeps me coming back: it lets me feel the soul of the music much better than any of the amps I tried so far and the small variables in tonality and some other aspects of presentation become always of secondary importance.

Peter,

Thanks a lot for your opinions. Have you ever considered one of the decendants/siblings/brides/aunts/third cousins of SoZ for a preamp? I am just kidding, no disrespect meant, but seriously am very interested in knowing what would be a good pre amp match for a Zv9.

Regards,
Dinesh
